Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients:
• 3 large Granny Smith apples
• 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 cup milk (240 ml)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Vegetable oil, for frying

Cinnamon Sugar Coating
• ½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
• 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

Optional Dip
• Caramel sauce
• Vanilla yogurt or whipped cream

How to make them:

  1. Peel the apples and cut them into fry-shaped sticks, about ¼ inch thick. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add the milk and vanilla extract, whisking until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the apples.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip the apple sticks into the batter, letting the excess drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil.
  6. Fry in batches for about 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until the Apple Fries are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
  8. While still warm, toss the fries in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.

Serve these Apple Fries warm with caramel sauce for dipping — they disappear fast!
