Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
• 3 large Granny Smith apples
• 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 cup milk (240 ml)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Vegetable oil, for frying
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
• ½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
• 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
Optional Dip
• Caramel sauce
• Vanilla yogurt or whipped cream
How to make them:
- Peel the apples and cut them into fry-shaped sticks, about ¼ inch thick. Pat them dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder.
- Add the milk and vanilla extract, whisking until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the apples.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip the apple sticks into the batter, letting the excess drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil.
- Fry in batches for about 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until the Apple Fries are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
- While still warm, toss the fries in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
