Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for rolling
  • Red and green food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add to the butter mixture.
  5. Divide dough into two parts. Add red food coloring to one half and green to the other (optional).
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, then coat in powdered sugar.
  7. Place on baking sheets, flatten slightly, and add sprinkles if desired.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes if too soft.
