- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and both granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the molasses and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar if desired, then cut into bars.
Notes
- For extra spice, add 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg.
- Store cooled bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
