Description
A rich and moist chocolate cake made in a single bowl, featuring three types of chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.
- Carefully stir in the hot water. The batter will be thin.
- Fold in the semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the white chocolate chips evenly over the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For an extra fudgy texture, you can add 1/2 cup of sour cream to the batter along with the buttermilk.
- Ensure your hot water is truly hot, as this helps to bloom the cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor.
