Description

Chewy red velvet cookies rolled in powdered sugar for a festive crinkle effect.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, red food coloring, and white vinegar. Add this mixture to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and flour. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm enough to roll.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Place the powdered sugar in a shallow bowl.
  8. Scoop the cookie dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in the powdered sugar, ensuring it is fully coated.
  9. Place the coated dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are still slightly soft.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a deeper red color, you can use gel food coloring.
  • Ensure the dough is well chilled before rolling for the best crinkle effect.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
