Mushroom and Gruyere Tart

Description

A savory tart featuring earthy mushrooms and nutty Gruyere cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Score a 1-inch border around the edges of the pastry with a knife, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  5. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  6. Add the sliced mushrooms and minced shallot. Cook until the mushrooms release their liquid and begin to brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Add the minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  8. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  9. Spread the mushroom mixture evenly over the puff pastry, staying within the scored border.
  10. Sprinkle the shredded Gruyere cheese over the mushrooms.
  11. Brush the scored border of the puff pastry with the beaten egg wash.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  13. Let the tart cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can use a mix of mushroom varieties for added flavor.
  • A sprinkle of fresh thyme or parsley after baking adds a nice touch.
